As we all know, the future UAV cluster appears in the military field. How do you deal with a drone cluster when it appears in enemy airspace? Scientists at Lockheed Martin believe that using green laser pointer weapons to deal with these "locusts" and defending national interests becomes a necessary technical means.
The Q-53 radar developed by Lockheed Martin can undertake challenging tasks such as detecting drone clusters. The Lockheed Martin Laser Anti-UAV system has three steps:
Discover, identify, strike. Before using the green laser pointer weapon system to defend against threats, operators will be able to use the communications and combat management systems to detect, track and identify drone threats.
1. Discover: First, a radar like the Q-53 system detects threats and passes data through the combat management system, which triggers the “kill chain” to begin execution.
2. Identification: As part of the kill chain, the operator will monitor the progress of the target and determine if they are friendly or unfriendly.
3. Strike: In order to combat the threats designated as “unfriendly”, the operator will activate the laser weapon system, or choose to use a network system like ICARUS to eliminate the threat, and finally destroy the individuals in the drone cluster one by one.
In addition, Lockheed Martin's ALADIN laser anti-UAV system is being produced with a power of 30 kW. The modular design allows the power of the green laser pointer to be adjusted to the needs of specific tasks and threats.
Currently, Lockheed Martin is developing a larger system with a power of up to 60 kW that combines multiple fiber lasers to produce high power weapon beams. Because the system relies on many modular fiber green laser pointers, it can be easily scaled to meet different power requirements. With this parallel approach, as long as the power is satisfied, there will be no single point of failure that will affect the performance of the laser. The laser weapon system can be fired repeatedly, basically creating an infinite shape like a bullet to launch.
