The scintillation counter is the basic accessory of the fixed diffractometer. At the same time, the one-dimensional position sensitive detector is a reliable instrument, which can significantly reduce the measurement time in the case of weak diffraction lines and small irradiation areas. However, maintenance and calibration procedures are also increasingly required. Area detectors are still very expensive, and if the diffractometer must be used for general diffraction experiments, there are some disadvantages. Therefore, they are mainly of interest for some special applications involving coarse-grained materials, single crystals or small spot sizes.
The Laser pointer power and beam size will change over time for many reasons. Most changes are somehow related to the second law of thermodynamics. Changes in laser power or beam size will change the way the laser interacts with the material, which is the power density. When the power density changes, the laser system no longer processes the material the way it was designed. This can cause thermal effects and component degradation.
In AM, since the power density may exceed 1 MW/cm2, the technician must be extra careful to accurately measure the working laser engraver beam. Dirty or damaged optics can severely affect the beam profile and may cause power measurement errors.
An important part of today's X-ray diffraction equipment is the software package that supports all common diffraction methods. The stress software must be able to use established methods to calculate the normal and shear stress components and the complete stress tensor. The software should be clearly structured and easy to handle. The measurement parameters, evaluation conditions and results must be clearly documented and stored in some standard data format to allow further use of, for example, standard word processing and desktop publishing programs. Standard measurements should interact as little as possible. For more complex applications, greater flexibility is needed to select measurement and evaluation parameters. If the intermediate results can be used in user-designed software for further evaluation, this will be very helpful.
