The first step is of course to remove the optical drive. Turn the optical drive bottom up, and use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the four corner fixing screws. After removing the bottom cover, you can see one large, one small, and two integrated circuit boards. Then pry off the buckles on both sides of the large circuit board, and pull out the various cables on the front and back of the circuit board to lift it up. The so-called bald head is located under the circuit board below between the two metal sliders. At both ends of the slider, you can find the fixed screws. You only need to unscrew a screw at the lower end of the left slider to remove this. Remove the slider and the bald head from the optical drive.
The glittering lens on the front of the bald head assembly is just a lens, which is completely useless for our transformation. The real light-emitting component, the laser diode, is located inside the bald head assembly. Because the screws that fix the green laser pointer diode are too small, it is really laborious to twist them one by one. Anyway, this optical drive is destined to be discarded. Simply use a screwdriver to pry boldly. First pry off the glued lens part, you can see the protective cover of the laser diode inside the optical head assembly, and then pry open the metal piece holding the protective cover, and you can easily get it out. Finally, unsolder the two solder joints at the tail of the laser diode protective cover. and take out the laser diode for later use.
