Why are laser safety goggles so important?
This is a must whenever you use the laser module for any application, let alone research. It is often necessary to look at the beam and target exposed to the laser beam. Many experiments require a high-power green laser pointer, but the human eye does not always see its light. If you're using a 2,000mW infrared laser, it's so powerful it can actually burn your skin. So think about what you can do with unprotected eyes that don't even realize they're exposed. Not good. Therefore, make sure you always use certain laser safety goggles that are adjusted to the correct frequency within the laser range. For example, if you use an IR laser, make sure your goggles protect at least 800 nm to 2200 nm. Or, if you are using a 1064nm laser, especially 1064nm. Retrieving data is obviously important, but getting it in a safe and repeatable way is just as important as not having it as important.

Most recommended laser designators provide fixed focus or focus output. If the laser has a fixed focus, it means that the width of the beam itself (getting wider or thinner) cannot be changed. It is usually standardized from 1.5mm to 3.0mm openings, but always remains at that particular width. The focusing laser (as you might expect) allows you to widen or dilute the beam. So, you might ask, what are the benefits of using a focable high powered laser versus an unfocused laser? Simple. More beam control. If you can actually control the desired beam width, you can target distant objects more accurately. A beam aimed at a few miles gets wider as it travels outward, so being able to shrink the beam allows you to keep a tighter beam over longer distances. It reduces divergence and is ideal for a variety of applications. This is especially important for laser combustion. Now, if you burn the laser above 500mW, you can "burn" no matter how close you focus, but if you try to fly a balloon from 50 feet away, the beam will be focused on making it as thin as possible to increase the intensity of the combustion heat. This is where the use of focusable units makes a big difference.
