Mass production of blue laser pointer with adjustable focus
Blue laser pointers are mass produced, so this helps keep costs down. They usually have less complex and less robust drive electronics, as the power source is supposedly well-defined - a set of batteries. The astigmatism and elliptical aberrations of typical high power laser pointer diodes may not have correcting optics - at a distance your spot is not a nice circular Gaussian profile. Probably just a cheap plastic lens glued to it, although some models have adjustable focus.

My conclusion from testing and calibrating these lasers is that while the design is clever, it's too finicky. Both lasers are used relatively sparingly in university laboratory settings. While it's possible someone fell and knocked the focusing lens out of its place on the 50mw laser pointer, it's probably already weak by the time that happens anyway. It may just be repeated thermal cycling that causes different optics, such as gussets, to deviate from correct alignment.

It is rare for such a low-power green green laser pointer to have such long-distance beam visibility in the field. Therefore, this series of laser pointers are widely used in the night sky to observe the celestial bodies and constellations in the night sky. In astronomy, when you take up arms, wave your fingers, and shout, it's always frustrating that one of the stars is pointing at you, and no one can fully understand what it's pointing at.
